Samuel is a BAFTA and Webby nominated writer and director working across drama, documentary and commercials.

Samuel has just directed his debut feature, ‘Lady’.

Co-written with his partner Miranda Campbell Bowling, and starring Sian Clifford (Fleabag) and Laurie Kynaston (Leonard and Hungry Paul), ‘Lady’ premiered at the BFI London Film Festival to critical acclaim.

Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian described it as “an outrageous barnstormer… like Saltburn on shrooms,” while ScreenDaily called it “phenomenal… an awful lot of fun.” 

‘Lady’ has continued gathering momentum on the festival circuit, with Samuel winning Best Director in the First Feature Competition at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.

The film also won both the Best Debut Film and the Young Jury Award at REC Tarragona Film Festival.

Other festival highlights include, screening in competition at Seattle IFF, Shanghai IFF, Revelation Perth IFF, and the International New Talent Competition at Taipei FF.

‘Lady’ hits UK cinemas August 14th and US cinemas this fall.

In the lead up to the UK theatrical release, Samuel will be attending special preview Q&A screenings, including at the BFI in London and the Watershed in Samuel’s hometown, Bristol.

After the US premiere in competition at Seattle International Film Festival, ‘Lady’ was picked up for theatrical distribution in North America, and is scheduled for release in October.

After studying Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art, Samuel began his career in television, self-shooting award-winning observational documentaries. 

His first dramatic short, ‘Connect’, was BAFTA-nominated for Best Short…

… won the Jury Award at Encounters, was inducted into the BFI National Archive, and is part of the A-Level Film Studies syllabus.

His short ‘Offline Dating’ achieved over 20 million views, sparking international press and social media debate around the impact of technology on dating.

It was featured in The Guardian, Huffington Post and USA Today, premiered theatrically at the BFI London Film Festival, and earned a Webby nomination and a Lovie win.

Alongside his narrative work, Samuel also has an established career as a commercials director…

… having helmed international ad campaigns for brands including Google, Apple and British Airways, and winning two Cannes Lions.
